8 Beit Eshel

Address: 8 Beit Eshel

Price: $1,100 + utilities (water, gas, electric, cable, phone, Arnona)

Level: 1 (go down a few steps to get into our garden entrance area)

Bedrooms: 1 master + 1 "guest"

Bed: Queen in master, 1 trundlebed-ish thing in guest room

Bedroom Items:  Master: 2 super-huge closets with drawers & doors made of mirrors, 1 desk, plenty of shelves and storage space, phone, plenty of extension cords, clothing hamper.  Does not come with night stands, but there are night lamps above each side of the bed for night-time reading.

Bathrooms: 1 (part of master bedroom, so not ideal for sharing)

Rooms: 1 "Guest" room that we really use as an office.  It has bookshelves in there with lots of books, mostly related to biblical stuff and Jerusalem.  Also has table that we use as desk.  1 large living room with 2 couches and 3 chairs, and second large room that has both a nice size dining area and a large kitchen.  Also has a large garden and outdoor seating area that we share with caretaker.  Garden has lemon tree, pomegranate tree and other fun plants and flowers.  Also has shed stocked with things like vacuum cleaner and granny cart.

Seating: Dining Room table comfortably seats 8, could add extra side table and fit more (extra outdoor chairs could be brought inside).  We use the dining room table chairs for our desk chairs.

Kitchen: Huge, plenty of storage, fully stocked with both meat and dairy pots, pans, utensils.  Set of dishes don't really match, but it's fun to mix-and-match as they're all glass.  Comes with microwave, but we don't use it b/c it's gross.  Previous tenants bought their own microwave and we just use the stove.  Also comes with Pesach dishes, benschers, towels, Shabbat water urn and more.

Washer/Dryer: Small Israeli washer only.  We found the quick setting works just fine and takes less than half the time as the normal cycle.  We also bought an indoor drying rack b/c there are birds that rest above the outdoor clothesline.

Cable/Internet:  Cable already set up.  Internet not.  Phone also set up.

TV: Yes, in living room.

Sheets/Blankets/Towels:   Plenty of towels, sheets, linens, etc. but nothing really matches.  We bought some sheets from the previous tentants that match better than the rest and that fit the queen bed (the sheets that came with the house were all twin sheets).  We also brought a down comforter and a throw blanket with us from the US.  You may/may not need this depending on how cold you get.  There's really no "comforter" but there are plenty of throw blankets.

Pluses: It's a huge space, we have our own garden that we share with caretaker.  The caretaker has a dog that stays in the yard.  We have no responsibility for the dog, but even Jen (who doesn't like dogs) likes this dog.  Her name is Dog.  The caretaker lives on the same level but has his own apartment.  We share a gate entrance, but there are separate apartment entrances.  It's nice to have him around because if there are any problems with the apartment, we can knock on his door.  It's not your typical Israeli apartment b/c of it's size and age, but many rabbinical students have lived here and loved it!

Minuses:  It's a big stone "house" so it gets cold easily and hard to heat.  It also is old, so it had some smells that we had to work hard to get rid of in some areas of the apartment.  We also really don't have a choice about having a phone or cable, since our landlord wants to keep their phone number and cable.  The decor is not modern at all.  Think vintage/Early biblical combo with several mobiles that you may choose to leave up or take down.  Most walls are made of stone, but those that aren't are in need of a good paint job and some patch-ups in the walls.  There are other random oddities to the house, but I guess you'll have that wherever you go.  We've come to love them.  Inquire within.

Current Tenants & contact: Jen and Micah (jeschlosberg@jtsa.edu)

Management/Landlord/Owner: Please contact Jen

Things People Added:  We bought extra things for the apartment that we may/may not take home with us. If future tenants are interested in purchasing anything from us, we'd be delighted to work out a great deal!  (desk lamp, granny cart, trash cans, pans for kitchens (ones that came with house had scraped Teflon), space heaters, Brita, wireless router and much more!
